Can you kiss after Lip Fillers?

Updated: Dec 16, 2023

Lip filler is one of the most popular aesthetic treatments in the UK and it’s no wonder why! Lip filler is a brilliant way to:

Shape and define the lips

Augment the size and volume of the lips

Enhance the outline and profile of your lips

Smooth away wrinkles around the lip line

Plump and firm up lips which have lost definition and volume

Correct lip unevenness and asymmetry

Increase hydration of your lips

One question I get asked regarding a lip filler treatment is whether the patient can kiss afterwards, so here's the answer!

CAN YOU KISS JUST AFTER GETTING LIP FILLERS?

Unfortunately, I recommend not kissing straight after getting lip fillers. This is because kissing can apply pressure to the lips and increase the risk of infection due to the number of bacteria on lips. Therefore, it is best to avoid kissing for 48 hours afterwards – but that doesn’t mean a soft peck isn’t allowed! Your lips will probably be a bit tender and swollen after the treatment, so kissing might not be that appealing anyway.

Now that’s answered, let’s look at some other common questions I get in clinic…

CAN YOU EXERCISE AFTER LIP FILLER?

I recommend that exercise should be avoided for 24–48 hours after getting lip filler. This is because exercising increases body temperature which can cause blood flow to the lip area, worsening any swelling, bruising, or discomfort.

CAN YOU TAKE PAINKILLERS AFTER LIP FILLER?

It is completely fine to take painkillers after a lip filler treatment to help ease any discomfort felt afterwards. The best treatment to manage any pain and swelling is to apply a cool compress to the lips. For example, gently applying an ice pack wrapped in a towel after the treatment.

CAN YOU EAT AND DRINK AFTER LIP FILLERS?

Yes, you can eat and drink after lip fillers. However, you should take the following into consideration:

If you received a numbing treatment, it is best to wait until the numbing has worn off before eating in case you accidentally bite your lip.

Avoid foods that are messy or hard to eat in order to avoid wiping or rubbing your face and therefore causing irritation.

Do not drink from a straw, as puckering your lips can put pressure on your lips and cause pain and swelling.
